Time flies...

Well, it kinda amazes me how a month has passed without any updates here. Time flies, the development crawls, but the key thing is that both go forward.

There are currently a total of 100 missions on the different parts of the island. A new feature is score weights for each mission, so that they give mainly either 100, 200 or 300 points based on how challenging or time consuming they are. On the map below, which was taken from the island editor just a moment ago, you can see how all the missions and other messages have scattered around the island at the moment:

Also we have added many smaller islands and lakes in there, modified some areas and set up frequencies of fish and other animals.

Another major improvement is the role of a shelter. The player can build up a total of five shelters onto the island from logs and palm leaves. These shelters are kind of centers in the game, because they allow the player to sleep over the nights safely (skip the dark night times), get double nutrition values from food items, store food items for future use (food vanish if just left to terrain) and regain health. Basically the player makes short trips and longer journeys on the island to solve missions and explore other regions, and then at some point, comes back to one of the shelters to improve his conditions for future trips.

Some smaller stuff.. the new HUD has tabs, which makes it possible to display more information in less space. This is especially important in the low-res version, because there aren't too many pixels to waste. I'm planning also a higher resolution version which would be compiled with the HWA build of MMF2.

One of the minigames is Crab Arena where you have to kill as many crabs as you can inside a minute. Bird Arena is the same with seagulls. How cruel. Then there might be a third minigame of some sort as well. Each of these have their own online highscore boards.

We are not quite yet in the beta stage, but maybe in a couple of weeks (if you want to test, check the project forum). There are some very nasty bugs that need to be sorted out before the game can be called even a beta version. Basically these bugs have to do with object data handling, saving, inventory and stuff like that. But we'll get there, eventually.
