A solid pause menu is something that I ended up wanting in the Bonesaw game a while back, but unfortunately I felt like it was too much of a hassle to take on at that point in development.
The only way I knew how to do menus was through extensive programming with a complete custom engine and disabling event groups... awful stuff. Well, today I discovered the magic of sub applications.
You see, there were a lot of problems with gameplay involving some player feedback and information, and it turns out that this pause menu is going to solve virtually all of them. Players were often confused as to what golden pucks they had found in a level, so I threw that in the menu. The menu also has detailed health and bonesaw information, as well as a small tip that will be aimed specifically at each level.
I'm really excited to see where this goes. Obviously the shot I included is more of a work in progress, but you get the idea. The pause menu is a valuable resource to the player in regards to information, and thats the way I feel it should be. Hopefully everyone enjoys it when they finally get to play it! (someday, haha!)
Thats all for now, I'm actually working on the final set of levels now, so maybe things are finally starting to wind down production wise! Trust me, I can't wait to release the game, but I want to make sure its the best game that I can make it once I do. Thanks for bearing with me, until next time!
