New Save System
Posted 29th Sep 09, by Blue66
I was playing Doom2 recently (maybe I'm the only guy left on the planet who has this game, but I just love it) and I was kinda thinking about the gameplay a bit. There are two major parts that make this game fun. Shooting stuff and collecting items.

And I thought "fuck it, I want items and ammo that's lying around in my game too". The only problem with that was my save routine. It was only saving global values, nothing more. That would mean that I would have to make a global value for every item in every level -> sucks!

But with the combined help of Solgryn, AndyUK and UrbanMonk (many thx guys!) my dream has finally come to life.

The new improved save engine can literally save EVERYTHING that's going on in the game without making the game lag or anything. Still not entirely sure what other things to save with it (come on, you WANT to shoot the monsters again, don't you?!)...

But this is really fun. Right now I'm filling my world with items and other one-shot-gimmicks and it kinda feels a little bit more alive and it gives the feeling that the player is actually interacting with a "living" world...

PS: and btw I will announce a closed beta phase soon. I need some honest feedback from some of you guys, but this will have to wait for a few more days, so, stay tuned (if you're interested)

Sounds like a great idea that'll keep the game fresher for longer!
