Infinity Mode
Posted 12th May 10, by Blue66
Just a quick update. I've thought about some kind of an infinity mode, that literally keeps on giving you new quests and locations to rescue survivors. Well, yesterday I've made it real. This means you will get new missions that randomly places a lost survivor anywhere in the game (of course with an accurate quest message for you to find his location) and generates a random reward for rescueing him. This means that if you like, you can play the game for as long as you like .

But this mode is only available after you've beaten the normal game at least one time.

Sounds good. Though I think it would add some incentive if there was some secret mega weapon or bonus you could only get once you've rescued an insane amount of survivors, likes tens or a hundred or something. I'm more the type of gamer that prefers starting a new game from the start when there's nothing to gain anymore, rather than just roam around with a fully upgraded character that can't get any better or acquire anything new.

There are 75 upgrades available in the game. After my own 5 hour playthrough of the normal game, I got about 38. So I was far from being maxed out, but the story was at the end.

I've played this mode for a few hours yesterday and it was really hard. You start out with nothing and it's possible that you get send out into the hardest parts of the game. After a few hours, I had just started of getting all the weapons and had only a few upgrades.

If a lot of people like this mode, I will enhance it further, but for now it's quite fun for a few hours if you are bored or something and just want to kill zombies and get rewards

Ahh, ok.

You could also consider fetching quests.

"Help! I was wandering around in A when B attacked me, so I ran and I lost my C! I feel D without it. I'll give you a E if you can find it and bring it to me!"

A=Random location
B=Random enemy name (could imply the type of resistance, or just be a random detail)
C=Random item name (some funny ones included to get silly quests, like banana, pet mouse, underpants, beer, nuclear briefcase... ;P)
D=Random feeling (again some funny ones included, for silly quest combinations. Like tired, lonely, ill, empty, thirsty...)
E=Random reward

Or time based quests. "I'm sick, I need my medicine. I'm too weak to get it, so please get it for me. I can't last much longer. X minutes is about as much as I got."

Again, could be a random location, even random timeframe, and the medicine could've spawned anywhere in the mentioned area. Since the quest time is random, it's not always certain you can make it in time, but the reward could be something really nice. Kind of like a fool's errand, until you actually manage to do it.
