Pause Menu Fix (and possible revamp)
Posted 1st Feb 10, by Strife
I was talking to Renato (the guy who made Galaxia Chronicles) the other day, and he showed me how to make an effective pause menu for the game using sub-applications. With this new knowledge in mind, I've been able to modify the pause menu so that it's independent, but still able to read and share data from the main game.

What this means is that any bugs or issues that have been caused by visiting the pause menu and returning to the game have been completely eradicated. This also means that you will be able to access the pause menu at any point in time, even if you are in the middle of a cutscene. (Originally, the MENU button became ghosted out during these scenes.)

I'm really happy about this, because it means I don't have to put any more effort into making sure that the game saves information about the current monsters and objects on the screen. ; And it will also prevent the player from exploiting glitches, which was a problem with the first major boss since its melee attack would be interrupted if you paused and returned.

Also, while I'm at it, I don't think I ever posted a new screenshot of the pause menu since the graphical revamp. Check the attached image for a look-see.

(While I really like the bold colors, I'm also wondering if the Character menu is too cluttered. I've been thinking about splitting it into two different menus, or at least rearranging things. I guess we'll see.)

Menu looks good. The grey background might be a bit boring though. I'd suggest trying some other colours too when you have a moment to experiment. Grey can be so... lifeless sometimes, and it's a fairly high contrast to the otherwise colourful and lively world the game seems to have.

I use sub-apps for inventory in The Bubble as well. Really handy.

Looks great - could always have an embossed design on the background to prevent it from looking plain.

I think you gents are going to have to introduce me to the world of sub-apps though... they sound rather useful!

I like the look of the menu screen.

P.S. As for your filesize issue, you can take a page fro IJI and release a high quality soundtrack as a separate download (assuming you load the music externally).
