Random Crashes in Vista?
Posted 3rd Jun 10, by Strife
Some of my core testers have been trying the game on their Windows Vista PC's, and they've been reporting the game crashes randomly in certain spots. The crashes don't share anything similar in terms of events triggered, objects present, etc... so I'm having a really hard time figuring out what's causing it.

I have a hunch that perhaps one of the extensions I'm using for the game is causing the crashes. I need help figuring which one it is, though, if it's any of them. If you think you might be able to help me solve this issue, take a look at the topic I made on the forums:

Aside from that, testing is going fairly well. I've already unearthed and fixed a large number of glitches and balanced out some areas of the game that were too hard to begin with.

Blue66 has been having similar problems with GunGirl2, among some of the testers. You might want to inquire him if he's got any ideas. :3

Sorry that this is off topic to the question, but is this game going to be free?

Thanks for the suggestion, HitmanN. I'll bring it up to him once I have some spare time.

And yes, Jon, the game is going to be made of 100% pure, all-natural freeware juice.

Query: any testers running it on Windows 7 having the same issues?

Posted by Strife 6th June, 2010

I haven't tested it on a Windows 7 system, but I would presume that there's a similar case there.

I asked Blue66 about it, and he recommended that my testers try running the game in Win98 compatibility mode. We'll have to see if that helps anything.

Hmm, I know 7 fixed a lot of the compatibility issues in Vista...I also know I hate running in compatibility mode What system are YOU running it on, XP? Cause Win98 compatibility seems rather...drastic, to say the least :X

I'm running it on XP, yeah. Service Pack 3, if that makes any difference.

Buuuut I asked my Vista testers to try Win98 compatibility, and one of them has already reported a dramatic decrease in the number of crashes. So it appears to have helped.
