Tutorial "Level" coming soon!
Posted 5th May 10, by vertigoelectric
So, I kept thinking about the fact that I really need to add a sort of "help" screen or "controls" window so that players can see what the controls for the game are and know what they are able to do. Then it hit me like a ton of randomly flying spikes to the noggin.

TUTORIAL MODE! Well, not so much a "mode" as it will be a "level". Probably accessible from the title screen will be the "Tutorial" which will guide new players through the basic controls and elements of gameplay. It will teach those noobs how to walk, jump, double jump, shoot bullets, and perform other basic Jonny-type tasks.

Anyway, here's the question I have for YOU:

Would it be okay for the tutorial to be narrated by an audible voice only, or do you think I ought to display text on the screen for the player to read in case audio is not available for some reason? I'm thinking I'll have both, but I want your input.

I'm actually quite excited about making a tutorial mode. I have already started on building it.

Eh, What kind of a question is this? Of course NO VOICE!!!!!!! Everyone HATES it when their computer starts talking! Text only, please! NO SOUND!

LB, I will provide a button to enable/disable spoken narration in the tutorial.

I will probably have a prompt when the tutorial begins asking the player if he/she would like to enable voice narration.
