In-game menus done!
Posted 24th Oct 09, by Kamukoira
Hi all, it's been a week since the last update. The whole week I've been doing the in-game menus for the game, and actually a bit slowly because menus aren't really my expertise and there is really nothing exciting doing them.

But I'm satisfied with the menus, they work as they should and look good to me. Probably all weapons and demonic powers are selected in menus, I might do some shortcut buttons for weapons but not sure about it yet. But because everything is choosed in menus, I wanted to make menus as fast as possible and slick and handy to use so it really takes only a second to choose the weapon you want to.

From the pictures you can see how the menus in fact work. As you can see from the pics, there are no "Encyclopedia" which I first planned for the in-game menus. This encyclopedia was supposed to have loads of information from ALL enemies/character/places the player has seen by far. I in fact started doing the encyclopedia and had the idea in my mind but after doing it for couple of hours, I realized that this is TOO MUCH. If I ever want to finish this project, creating something like that is out of question. So I removed it and if I ever want to see it again, I can add it to the MAIN menu or somewhere after the game is actually finished.

And oh, I'm not yet finished doing those tooltip text for the weapons and other options in in-game menus, I just needed to write something up fast so you can expect those texts to improve after the engine is ready.

Next in line will be the enemies. This is certainly one of the biggest part of the engine so it will take probably lots of time.

Cheers

Not bad but I don't like the text font...

Which one? Pretty much all fonts except those five in the first screen are changeable.

About the Demonic Arts menu... You should try something more gothish... or try... Arial Narrow or Verdana or Tahoma...

Everything looks very stretched? (other than the equip text)

yeah it looks, I'm using double graphics in this game to achieve the best atmosphere for the game.

But I will give an option for players to choose whether they want to use 1x/2x graphics or not. With 1x graphics the game just looks sooo small(at least on my 24' widescreen) but also very sharp.

I changed the text from the demonic arts menu and the outcome is now more gothic.
