A production shift
Posted 26th Jun 09, by Dr. James MD
Well I really want to get the game finished now. My previous method of working was to inch by inch add the next frame and go over it until it was (in my mind at least) perfect. This is the reason why its taking so long, as well as all the backstage design work coming up with ways to compensate for players who might not have certain items, etc. But still no matter how much work I did on an area a few months down the line I'd be back tweaking it again.
So I'm dropping the perfecting bit for now and moving onto a new system. Now I just sketch out areas, drop in the collision blocks, enemy positions and leave the tweaking and detailed graphics until much later.

I need to get this game done D:

And using that method I'm already halfway through finishing off a whole new area. Production speed has really jumped up with this method.

That's it for now... Hey I can't make goodies for every update

This was a goodie enough by itself! It's a good plan. Perfectemefy everything later!

It's probably best to tweak things after you've finished the basic game. You might find it totally unbalanced on the whole even in areas you've already tweaked to death.

I know exactly how you feel >.<

Yeah seems a good solution. Can't wait to play seriously.

Pride in your work, James old chap? I feel the absolute same way. Can't wait til this monster is done.

I know exactly what you feel, but maybe this slow grade of detailing stuff to perfection is how good games are made. On the other hand the new method you're trying is the way the industry works. Maybe you're heading the right way...

Either way, can't wait!

Cheers all. I'm not sure how much quicker this will get the game out since it will still be scrutinised and redesigned once all the areas are in... At least it gives me a big skeleton to add meat to.

And I still haven't even played through it yet. Should probably get around to doing that.

I'm sure it will help heaps making something cohesive all at once

Maybe get other people to play through it too? *HINT*
