First area, incomplete too! See that blue ball thing on the right? Needs stuff there.

Working like a mad monk on this now

The map layout looks good but I wish i ould see it in more detail

WHOA BLOODY HELL!!!!!!!!

Now i cannot WAIT TO PLAY IT!!!

I wanna know how you even make the map for it!

Posted by Codemonkey 1st August, 2008

Looks... big... Is this one frame?

Posted by -Dark Martin- 1st August, 2008

No!

Each room is a frame.

Posted by Dr. James MD 1st August, 2008

It's about 106 frames that! Done by taking screenshots of the MMF2 level editor and piecing them together in Photoshop. got a serious use too - so I don't overlap areas and can line stuff up just right.

Each pixel is roughly 1 square foot making it (rocks removed) almost 50 square miles.

OMFG...

Posted by Codemonkey 1st August, 2008

Holy crap. what is the file size for this?

Posted by Dr. James MD 1st August, 2008

71mb!

Posted by Codemonkey 1st August, 2008

Oh. Ouch.

Posted by Dr. James MD 2nd August, 2008

That's with all the music and stuff too. Can't imagine it creeping over 100mb but wheeeell see.

Posted by Zezard 2nd August, 2008

What! You are screenshoting this! That seems like an awful lot of uneccessary work....

Why not paint it in PS, save as PNG (or whatever), use the Active Picture Object to import it into MMF and then make it into a background or Active or whatever you may want to make it into.

If you want to be sure to work at pixel precision, use the same grid in both mmf and ps and set snap to grid on.

I guess you might have your reasons for your current technique, but I really hope my advice helps because using printscreen for images this big must be, well, it's a lot of boring work...

Posted by Zezard 2nd August, 2008

Btw, it looks gorgeous.

Posted by Dr. James MD 2nd August, 2008

Cheers
It is a bit boring but at the same time I can plan out large sections quite easily. Say one frame has a lake, and theres a tunnel below, because of the map I can add a few water drop generators. Some frames also overlap but "empty space" (the kind you're running around in) never overlaps. Most players probably won't even notice though

I fail to see the update, James ;_;

Posted by alastair john jack 2nd August, 2008

wow!
Stone of Jordan!

Posted by AndyUK 2nd August, 2008

It's nice to see you updating with more than just a new screen shot every month or a paragraph of text telling people you've drawn a new sprite.

Newbies could take a few pointers from this project dev blog.

I knew you'd spot that Adam there was a big typo in the main text bit and it said something twice ops:

Is there any lava in tormishire, you gotta have lava.

Posted by Dr. James MD 2nd August, 2008

There's lava alright, and a thermal reactor power station place

Posted by -Dark Martin- 12th August, 2008

... sorry but i can't tell if your being sarcastic or not...

Posted by -Dark Martin- 13th August, 2008

OO the greeny grey place near the top left corner is where Tsol gets pwned badly by spikes.!!

It was just a funny trailer jay made.

I can't quite see the place where Tsol falls from the surface and into that undergound lake though?

Posted by Dr. James MD 13th August, 2008

I was being cereal only biftek is trying to figure out how to get some areas in using faux science.

Posted by -Dark Martin- 15th August, 2008

Cereal.!!!

hehe, i watched that south park episode.

Biftek... Faux Science?

Posted by Dr. James MD 16th August, 2008

Biftek= French for beef I think.

Posted by -Dark Martin- 16th August, 2008

hehehe.

By the way... who exactly is Tsol.

What are those sleeping monsters. (Namely the things you murder in there sleep.)

and those cute little blue things... now thats a myster.:/

I dunno how you have the patience for this... My current game is 45 frames and I don't even want to consider mapping out how it works (especially since it DOESN'T make any sense logically).

I doubt anyone here knows what game I'm talking about. Thankfully.

Outta interest, how long does that mofo take to save?

Posted by -Dark Martin- 18th August, 2008

Well if you look at todays largest games like Metroid Prime and that game is looooooooong, it saves quite quickly, so i imagine that Tormishire will save rather quickly.... unless you were talking about the MFA?:/

Posted by Dr. James MD 18th August, 2008

.MFA takes about 30 seconds to save
I don't even bother counting Photoshop, I just press save and go watch Coronation Street or play Brawl some
Saving your progress in the game is instant. It just kicks off a fastloop that does it all rather quickly. Unlike Pokemon Pearl which takes a year to save -.---

Posted by -Dark Martin- 18th August, 2008

Brawl i can understant but Coronation Street!?... i can't stand soaps.

My games takes around 10 seconds to save... i'd hate to save it when its near completion.:/

Posted by Dr. James MD 26th August, 2008

Aw man, Corrie is like modern day Shakespeare or something!
