So in Tormishire there's a menu of sorts. Either press Start on a 360 controller or Esc on the keyboard to bring up the menu.
So here we are in game, tra-lala. But what's that? You want to check an item or change some options?
The first page of the menu screen is the stats page. It lists your party details and the bits and bobs you've collected so far (these appear ingame when needed). As well as the usual quit game options. But when you press either Q or E, or the shoulder buttons on a 360 controller...
Here we go!
This page lists the skills the player has collected. These cannot be lost, traded etc. They're yours until the game ends.
Next up is the items page. These can only be used one at a time and are activated using the action key. They appear in the order they're collected, which is the same order as they move if you press the switch item keys ingame.
But you can shift them around to whatever order you want! Probably a good idea to keep most used items lower down in the list!
This is a relatively new feature in the game. There are 50 books in the game that detail the area, the characters and story as a whole. They're collectables and are hidden around. There are also books describing bosses and how to attack them just before you fight them, though they're usually very tough to find.
They're not even entirely necessary but can offer secrets and such for the more exploration-y of players.
The medals! These offer a few milestone achievements in the game, there are 32 in total, 12 going to bosses alone.
Because of the way Tormishire works - there is no clear cut goal or one true route to go. So this (along with other collectables) is how progress is measured.
There will be an external options app (like all my games), but Tormi will have some options that don't require a restart built into the menu screen.
The interface isn't 100% complete yet, them block graphics and corner graphics are just placeholders whilst I work on the meatier bits of the menu.
Unless I can get a 3D map working then it likely won't have one (in the style of Metroid/Castlevania).
It's something I want to fix when the full map is done.
