Hi, my name is James and I'm going to redraw lots of stuff for this game.
See I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. With The New Satan Sam I tried to cover up my lack of classic pixel art training with stylised visuals, at least for the background art. I thought I knew enough about art and such to be able to go for a more realistic approach with Tormi. But it hasn't worked as I just can't draw big detailed backgrounds.
So the new style is going to be a bit of a step back to Satan Sam in that I'll be using a more abstract approach. Graphics represented more by their purpose and impact than how they'd normally appear. At least this will give me a much more creative artistic license to be able to draw pretty much what comes into mind without worrying too much about realism.
And that's the problem with this game. Realism. I've grounded a few things within logic but it's difficult to balance the surreal parts of some of the game with this relentless realism.
So really it's time to step back, take some LSD or just drink 2 Red Bulls and go a little bit loose with design.
But enough about art. This is the nuze!
+ Been working flat out again on the engine, mostly enhancing the end-user experience by supporting more controllers, having the keyboard instantly useable should a controller be disconnected, tidying up the online and DLC bits (like it used to crash if the connection went down).
+ Wrangled myself another guest track, this time by a DJ style chap and its to be used in the final section of the game. It's a really fantastic piece that fits in well with the rest of the soundtrack. Also got a couple of tracks from MrPineapple's (the main musician) sister.
Also shipped off a demo to some industry execs who were rather pleased with it! Which was a big slice of motivation.
