Ever wanted to program 3D games but dont know where to start? ShadowCaster's Guide To Jamagic (Part 1) should come in handy!

This tutorial explains the Jamagic interface, and shows how to create a new application and edit all of the setup options. If

What is it you use to make the models/maps in it? Can you import MDL/BSP files into it (I used to do modding and mapping for Half-Life so I know how to make them). I'm stuck between DBPro and Jamagic in the world of 3D games - I know that DBP does MDL and BSP, but does JM?

Jamagic can open: gib, gip, 3ds, md2, x, dxf, obj, cob, and wrl files. I usually model in Maya ( http://www.aliaswavefront.com ) and export my models into OBJ format for loading in Jamagic.

Jamagic has a basic world editor which you can place models into, or add basic objects (such as cubes, cones, etc) into as well, in order to create a 3D world with a graphical editor. But I'll be getting into that in a later tutorial.

Oh yeah, and like it says in the tutorial, you can also use some of the models that come with Jamagic, like racing cars, helecopters, guys with guns, and so on (there's a screenshot of some of them in the tutorial).

Thanks. That will come in really useful. I have just bought Jamagic but have no idea how to use it yet and the interface does look daunting.

well this isn't really an advanced area...

after reading this you wouldn't have a clue on how to actually create something.. but you have to start somewhere, and maybe it's best to start where most projects start

It took me ages to learn jamagic. and I still have much too learn. like, how to organice my coding so its not a mess.. ALl jamagic tutorials I find are welcome!

Well like I said in this tutorial, my next Jamagic tutorial will be how to create a simple application, and I'll be moving on from there to more advanced areas. I never said this one was advanced, Aali

I'm looking into Jamagic also. What's the easiest, free 3D modeller? And where can I find a tutorial on modelling?

There is a free version of Maya available at http://www.aliaswavefront.com called Maya PLE (Personal Learning Edition). Maya is a pretty large program, around 150mb, so if you dont have broadband it may take a while.

Yah Jamagic is difficult, but if you want to become a proffesional programmer you will need to know much more complex languages like Jamagic or C or C++ or something like that. That's why I started using Jamagic and I just finished my first game- 3D Pong. It's been done before, but it was a good experience in learning the basics of Jamagic.

I'm considering trying out Jamagic, but does it come with a model editor? Or do you have to use a separate one? If you have to use a separate one, what formats can it load?

Also, the link to the PDF file appears to be broken.
