It might not be a bad idea to expand the playingfield a bit, so you don't feel so confined. Also, the ship's constant rotation is a little distracting.
I think that the playing field should be unlimited. The music in the menu is very annoying, but the game music is very good. Maybe the game music should play all the time?
I miss the enemy spawn sounds from Geo Wars that let you know on more than one sense what enemies are appearing. There doesn't seem to be much feedback when you die. Sure, the enemies disappear and you flash red for a little bit but it could use something a bit more dramatic. The spinning ship is very distracting. The cursor disappeared entirely for me on the score submission screen. Enemies spawn on top of the player with little to no warning. Definitely try and choose less annoying shooting and ricochet sounds, since that is what the player will be constantly hearing, and it's odd to hear the edge-ricochet sound that signals useless shots when firing on stronger enemies. I'm not sure the play area needs to be enlarged so much as the player speed decreased, since there's no large need for such a high speed (at least from the short bit I played), and it makes the movement more touchy rather than fine. Speaking of fine, it feels like you're using hitboxes larger than the sprites themselves, although it might just be due to the fast movement of the player. Otherwise, the engine is solid and pretty fun. Comment edited by Noyb on 2/4/2008
Thanks for comments. Cursor only disappears on vitalizeversion, stand alone works fine.
I didn't have much time to focus on sounds and music because of this competition and because of vitalize I couldn't use any mod extensions = I needed to use MMF2's own ability to play mods :S and if you have never tried it you know it really sucks.
I'll release new update later for this game with better sounds(and more of them), menus and I'll fix those problems Comment edited by Kraton on 2/5/2008

Umm?
Retrospect was developped around a week for vitalize competition and so it's still pretty rough. However I'm updating game all the time and later there will be more modes like campaign where you can get more weapons, powerupps, ship equipment and more. This game right here will be the real game's retromode etc..

I Think you've made a really good geometry wars clone, i think the game engine is great however i find the control rather stuiped, why don't you just use the arrows keys, i would give your game 5 star had the controls been better
BTW: There's new update today:
- new menu
- Enemies can't spawn on the player
- Control setup, use WASD or Arrows
- Little graphics changes
- Different spawn style
Should the playfield REALLY not be at least nearly unlimited ?
If unlimited ... and you don't have to travel to planets or anything ... couldn't you just make the ship stay in place, and have the stars wrap around or something to feel like you are moving .. then adjust enemy AI as needed ?
Hmmm, even if you can travel to planets, you could just use counters for that right ? For distance .. right ? <shrugs> Comment edited by MBK on 2/24/2008
