Survive in space, that;s all there is. Use the WASD keys to move, mouse to fire. Use space to use a bomb. The menu screen doubles as an enemy/bullet free practice screen. Don't get killed. I didn't spend a lot of time on this, though, just so you know. There are probably bugs. It's all for a high score, which'll probably annow ricky.

The glowing bar at the top is your health. The bar at the bottom is your bmob power. it should be full to use a bomb.
I took the explosion effect from an open source tutorial here.

Any comments? Especially on the logo before the game?

Very pretty, although I think one or two of the special effects didn't work properly due to my graphics card being too old (only supports dx.

It is buggy. For example, you can fly just off the edge of the screen and keep shooting without the bad guys being able to hit you back.

Also, the music is quite possibly the worst I've ever heard in a video game.

I took it from the CD. You're supposed to die when you fly off the screen! Arghh...

wow! yet another 0kb download!
I wouldn't be able to play this game anyway, my graphics card is ancient.

I just downloaded Koobare's new Space Corsair tutorial. It uses the same music and nobody complained about that!

Suggested improvements

-Enemies need to be slowed down
-Explosion effects need to be less
-The enemies graphics could be improved
-A background would add a lot to the game
-Make the cross-hairs larger.
-Add different types of enemies
-Add powerups

Tip: Play your own game with this question in mind "would I like this if it wasn't my game?"

I know you are learning, and if this was just an experiment you've done quite well with the particle effects; just tone them down for an actual game.

That explosion looks awful familiar.

I took it from an open source file by someone called Featured Codemonkey and did just a bit of modification. Wonder who he is? The rest of the effects are original though.

I can see where this game has alot of potential, however for me it lacked challenge and therefore excitement - my main gripes were the controls (which i felt didn't suit a space-ship, there was no inertia for example) and the fact that enemies died to quickly and travelled too fast, making them annoying rather than a challenge.

What i did enjoy though was the pyschodelic feeling the game offered me - it felt like i was i was tripping out whilst playing and this made it stand out for me. Not many people on here make games that stand out so much! And there was good use of Mr. Codemonkey's excellent explosions open source!

Howevever overall the game needs a fair bit more work. By just holding the mouse button and aiming at the enemies i hardly even had to move, and this left me with a very empty feeling. I would very much like to see an improved version of this bad-boy, just to see how much it can be improved!

Thanks, Marko! I am using the same basic engine for my halloween zombie game.
