I was playing around with the ray-casting extension that came out a little while ago. While I was trying to make a window within a level I discovered that if you make a texture with pure black in it it is transparent. You can also set the colour of the ceiling to black witch is how the new sky demo makes the sky.

Anyway, I figured out that if the extension is transparent, you can put another ray-caster extension behind the first one and then, if you use a different map, you can see through the "window" texture.

I basically used 2 different versions of the same map. The one on top has the window textures and the one on the bottom has the walls with the window textures removed.

In this example I made it so the player could go from inside to outside by making an invisible sprite that when the player walked over it, it changed the floor texture to grass and turned off the celling texture. I hid the transition by making both the buildings have 2 doors. When the player goes to open the second door they are too close to it to see the change.

Anyway, I really hop that the author of the ray-casting extension desides to add features like different floor/celling tiles and transparent walls/doors as a native part of the extension. Doing it this way is a lot of fiddling around and it's very buggy and limiting. Wile you can make windows that look from inside to outside I have not found a way to make windows that look from out side to inside. Turning on the ceiling for the inside part also makes the outside part have a ceiling too because the sky is just transparent.

Very nice! This is the best example I've seen made with this extension yet!

Hi UrbanMonk, I just played around with the textures and maps in the level editor. Did some minor coding changes but most of this is just the code is just the example file. I still have no idea how the movement works or how to make it render a map from scratch.

Pretty cool stuff, though I don't really get what's so awesome with the windows in particular?

And also, the way the mountain-background "scrolls"...

Transparent windows are not built into the extension.

This example is to show of a clever work around.
I do hope however that transparency will be added to the extension later.

Hi Bigredron if you buy the Klick Disc there is now a download for the CD. So if you go and buy it now you can then download it straight away!

Glasskatten, what's so grate about the windows is that they are not built into the extension. Also, when I say "windows" I mean any transparent texture. So in this example there are the windows, the chain-link fence and the glass doors.

It's ok, I really wish you didn't need a work around for this.

awesome example! one bug I found, if you go from inside to outside, open the second door and walk backwards inside, the level renders as the inside one

Hi Rhys D, I actually knew about that before. Also sometimes the doors will not close properly and with the glass door half open you get a trippy little effect of seeing half the "outside" would and half the "inside"
world.

I'm not sure if this kind of thing is possible to fix with this work-around.

yeah that's what was occurring with the bug, the transparent part of the door was showing the worlds morph into each other, was kind of cool haha

anyway, another way to do this would be to have 2 different frames, one for outside and one for inside and switch the player depending on which door they walk through

i'm sure you can fix that glitch easily anyway by making the outside door non-transparent in the middle

Kisguri, yea, I saw that today. It was a little strange seeing my work up there.

Anyway, you can put it on the new Klikdisc if you like.
