Description
Summer has been stolen and only one hero can save the day! Danger and adventure await, deep within 'The Scientist's' gauntlet. A 16-bit retro styled tough as nails action platformer, Summer Gauntlet will test your platforming skills to the limit, can you defeat the ultimate trial?

Controls
An official Microsoft XBOX controller is recommended for the best gameplay experience although keyboard controls work just fine!

XBOX Controller:
A= Jump
X= Shoot
Y= Interact/Pause
Left Thumbstick= Movement
Press A twice to skip cutscences

Keyboard Controls:
Z= Jump
X= Shoot
C= Interact/Pause
Arrow Keys= Movement
Press Z twice to skip cutscences

Other Gamepads:
Should work just fine although button layout may vary.

Gameplay
Attempt to press floating buttons to gain access to new areas of the gauntlet and complete the diamond located in the main chamber. Once the diamond is complete head towards the chamber where you started and see what happens

Summer Gauntlet auto-saves after passing an inactive checkpoint. A floppy disk icon displays whilst your game is saving. NOTE: Playing on hard mode, your lives are recorded in real time so no reloading if you really messed something up!

XVID Notice
Summer Gauntlet utilises the XVID codec to decompress video. Windows 7 should have native support for XVID videos (Untested). Previous versions of Windows require the free XVID codec installed in order to view cutscences and can be downloaded for free here:

Competition Version
To enjoy the best possible experience with Summer Gauntlet the default download is the optimal version, utilising parallax scrolling and a higher particle count over the competition version. The competition version has been built for judging purposes so as to comply with the Summer Funtition rules, therefore the visuals have been restricted to one layer only.

I REALLY liked the game. I was able to beat it on NORMAL. But, it was really very hard. Nevertheless, it is a great game. However, there is one point that I don't understand. I thought that the ending was inconclusive. There was no dialog and it was not clear to me what really happened. Did I miss something?

Hi Guys!

I'm really happy with the feedback for Summer Gauntlet and I can't thank you enough for all your kind comments. It's truly appreciated and motivating

@Urban Monk
There's no plan for a flash version at this time, my next project will be an xbox live indie release

@Indago
There's two reasons for the inconclusive ending.
1. It was supposed to be, with all the effects and diffusion it's hard to make out, but the glowy "object" was in fact the sun contained in a flask captured in the introduction sequence if you couldn't quite make it out. It slowly sinks into the gauntlet, embedding itself exactly at the point where the whole adventure begins. It seemed a nice and thoughtful way to end the game.

2. Although the intention was to be elusive, There are two deleted scenes that explain more of what happened but unfortunately never made the final release due to time constraints.

For anyone that's having difficulty with the game, I'm in the process of rendering a complete developer play through and should be uploaded on YouTube by the end of today! I can beat it in just over 20mins on hard

Have Fun and Thank's for playing!
