I just hate how they copy proof their games so extensively. If I buy a game I want to be able to play it with my roommate. I think they should put at least 2 CD-keys on their products.
thinking is like pong, it's easy, but you miss sometimes.
EA makes decent games. NFSU 1 and 2, The Sims 2, BF1942, RA2, the SimCity series. But I still hate them. Most of their games, although fun, are just plain shallow, and getting to be as shallow as possible. They're the very people who focus on the word 'industry' in "game industry". It's no longer become real entertainment, it's just yet another money-making industry to them. I hope they go bankrupt and I hope those back-breaking executives go to hell. Same goes for Atari/Infogrames. They fucking ruined X-Com (and took a lotta fun outta RCT)!
However, I'm not sure, but I think it goes that way in the game industry. Main reason I decided not to take a degree in Computer Science. It seems that the greediest capitalists will win in the game industry, or at least the people who love the job. But since Interplay's founder quit, I guess that just leaves the capitalists to reign. Games just don't make enough money as it is.
I think that all the problems in the game industry would be solved if only the game industry would just follow the path of all other media. You know, sell ads in games to commercial companies, sell licenses to make movies/action figures from games... that kind of thing. Which would be easily possible if they bothered to get PROPER game designers, instead of promoting the best (albiet uncreative) coder.
BTW, you do NOT want to work for Nintendo. Nintendo's probably the worst gaming company in the world. Only reason people like them is because they hate MS and Sony. They're far worse than anything else, but it doesn't show under the layers of cuteness.
Good companies are like Lionhead, Take2 (was it a 2?) Interactive, and the remnants was formerly known as Interplay. I'm glad the new Interplay's broke though.. serves them right for firing Black Isle, churning out that piece-of-crap Lionheart, and turning Baldur's Gate and Fallout into CRPGs.
The game industry sucks, and I'm glad that I chose to start on another path. Yet I shall be back one day... as a publisher or game designer... just as soon as the oppurtunity arrivese...
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
EA has published some good games... The two Lord of the Rings beat-'em-ups and Need for Speed come readily to mind. But they definitely need to go down. Their developers are talented but their management is hostile; they're trying to buy Ubisoft, the only company that can really look them in the eye, which is not cool.
Last time I had lobster, it reminded me of biology class. Except in biology class the professor didn't make you eat the frog when you were finished.
t's okay, cos EA don't publish or develop any of the best games. I know they do have some fun games, but I could easily live without them, the best games are to be found elsewhere.
