The Pilgrims, landing in Massachusetts coming from England
on the Mayflower in 1620, because channel 5 is so hard to get. They were ill equipped to survive the harsh winters of the New World. Later they met an Indian of the
Pawtuxet tribe named Squanto who befriended them, taught them how to
survive in their new wilderness home. He showed them things like how to plant corn with a fish, to use as fertilizer. He also acted as an interpreter with the Wampanoag tribe and its chief,
Massasoit.

At the end of the winter, half of the pilgrims had died. But one year later in 1621 their crops were bountiful, and they invited their Indian friends over for a feast, which lasted three days. There were actually more Indians than pilgrims at the feast.

But it's cheap over here because of the run-up to Christmas. Yay. I'm looking forward to a week of turkey porridge, sandwiches and casserole - plus a special treat, turkey and custard. Yum.
