My computer has been trying it's best to bite the dust for awhile now, and now it has come very close to succeeding... It may be saved!
Anyway, over the past few weeks, I have been working on the computer, and the mouse and keyboard just stop working. (There is no common action that the computer was performing when it stops) After a few mouse/keyboard crashes, I tried to boot up my computer, and it just displayed the name of my graphics driver in text. Nothing else, just the text. I wondered about how to fix it, and eventually opened up the computer and got the dust out. (There was a thick layer on what I believe to be the graphics card) After getting out the dust, the computer started working again. Now, it just displays the graphics card again, and it won't work after being cleaned out. Any ideas? Maybe buying a new graphics card or something? Are the mouse/keyboard crashes and this graphics card thing related?

Mwahahaha. Your misfortune amuses and arouses me.

Your work isn't lost as long as your HDD is alright, btw.

Well, I sort of put a big hole in it while trying to make it work again... It'll still work, right?

Just kidding

Hah.. I reccomend removing the hardrive and putting it on a friend's PC, then backing-up the most important stuff on CDs (remember to make sure the CDs work!). Then try to salvage whatever you can out of your PC.

Can you get into the 'startup' menu by pressing F8 for a couple of times while the computer is starting?
If so, can your computer start up in safe mode? Or try an option with 'VGA Mode' in it, I don't know the exact name, but it should have that in it's name. If that doesn't work either, you can try to 'start up with the last good working settings', I don't know the exact name of that one eiter, I've got a Dutch version.
If you can start up the system, download the newest drivers, even if you already have them, and install them. Especially when the resolution and color depth isn't normal anymore.

Or your driver fails loading, or the chip of the videocard is burned.
The graphicscard has a cooler on it, if there is a lot of dust in that cooler, the chipset can't be cooled enough to stay alive. But since the cooler doesn't face upwards, the ammount of dust shouldn't be that much (except if you got one of the cards with active coolers (fans) on both sides)
