What icon edditing programs do you know, and what ones would you recommend the most? Do any have features to export into DLL files and save several icons in them?

I usually use one called Microangelo, which also does animated mouse pointers. It's pretty easy to use, it's kinda like a good version of TGF's picture editor.

For icon editing I HIGHLY recommend Axialis IconWorkshop 5.0!

Its extremly power & based on making icons. It supports all 5 icon sizes, & also lets you have 32bit alpha channelled icons to add things like shadow's or smoothing out the edges of your icon for WindowsXP! It supports all color types so that its easy to make sure that your icon looks exactly how you want it to look regardless to how high or low the color debth is set & so on. Its just an extremly useful program. Give it a try.

I would highly recommend you don't follow any advice Cassata gives you. I use Microangelo like Asparagus Trev.

Anne-Marie: No, they have to share one.

Try Iconforge, it's the best one in my opinion. It can make animated cursors, normal cursors, animated icons (I think so) and normal icons. They say there is a 30-day trial (It counts day used, not days after 1st use), but everytime I downloaded it would go from 12 days to 3 days. But i'm not sure about the dll part

Try paint, you can create a bitmap and then rename it to .ico (true story)

I like AveIcon because it allows for batch processing of pngs>icos and vice versa (really useful when you have 1,400+ icons to add lower resolutions to it

As a boy, I wanted to be a train. I didn’t realize this was unusual—that other kids played with trains, not as them.
