It's a toss-up between Hamlet and Waiting for Godot.

I thought this was going to be a joke before I opened it...

Now I admit.. im no play expert and havn't really watched, well any to be honest. But wouldn't they be just like shitty low budget movies with no special effects, talented actors or sound effects? Not to mention going to see a movie would be cheaper!
Now I know you're saying "Buster, you're missing the point, its about being there, almost making your self part of the story!". Yeah because sitting close enough to to catch the 'actors' every particle of saliva that flys out of their mouth when they talk must be quite an experience. Sure, this is just my opinion but I'd rather goto the cinema with my cheap-ass popcorn and some friends than goto a play and sit next to some fat posh woman with those glasses on a stick and her husband the monopoly guy.
Oh okay now I hear you saying "Buster, you just dont understand... plays are beautiful, visual poetry. You just don't have the brain capacity to understand that."
Oh what? so you think you're better than me? Is that it? Well if you're so smart how come you just wasted your money on somthing that is most likely going to be (if it already hasn't) be converted into a movie that is 10X better?! Just think of that when you're waiting hours for the play to start because one of the 'actors' refuses to go on because they havnt got their single plum floating in purfume served in a mans hat. I'll be sitting watching my movie! The only good kinds of plays are those school plays. Why you ask? Oh I'll tell you why. Because they are unpredictable. Kids are so damn stupid you never know when they are going to screw up a line or fall over. Hilarity is ensured.
Soooo anyway that concludes busters opinion on plays!

Most plays do not get converted into a movie, and the ones that do aren't 10X better (Phantom of the Opera etc).

"Just think of that when you're waiting hours for the play to start because one of the 'actors' refuses to go on because they havnt got their single plum floating in purfume served in a mans hat"

That's just silly. These are hardworking people who work 6 days a week, sometimes 2 or 3 shows a night.

Now I admit.. im no play expert and havn't really watched, well any to be honest

Then how can you have an opinion on something you haven't seen?

"just like shitty low budget movies with no special effects, talented actors or sound effects?"

Almost all plays have sound effects and special effects. Not to mention the umpteen different sets they use.

"but I'd rather goto the cinema with my cheap-ass popcorn and some friends than goto a play and sit next to some fat posh woman with those glasses on a stick and her husband the monopoly guy."

Humourous I grant you, but complete shite again.

"Oh what? so you think you're better than me? Is that it?"

Yes, quite obviously.

The general view is that the film wasn't as good as the play. Singing wasn't as good in it.

plays make a night out, films are a quick thing you watch during the day on DVD on some crummy PS2 with a 4" screen, in mono.

i think its all about submersion but thats just me.

I can only remember seeing two.
pygmilian, which was ok.
and McBeth, which suprisingly, I enjoyed. You can see why it was a play and not a book, yet you have to study it as a book in school. stupid.

You don't want to see Pygmalion, you want to see My Fair Lady. And don't think about that Romeo and Juliet, watch West Side Story instead. HAR x3

By the way, Avenue Q is awesome, because it's got the song "The Internet is for porn" and it's all like Sesame Street. Ingenious. I have no idea whether it's any good or not, I just liked that song.
