I've got a few facial expressions animated, but no attacks or walking yet. This will take me a while, but it'll be worth it if I can finally get out a game people will notice.

I like the traditional weapons you're using, many people wouldn't know about the Guan Dao. You should have Kama as weapons, those are evil looking weapons. Anyway, good luck with the game.
I'm pretty sure Guan Dao's are featured in one of the recent Mortal Kombat games. Perhaps that's where inspiration was taken from. But yes, it is a weapon most people are not familiar with.
Yeah, the recent MK games feature a lot of obscure weapons and fighting styles that the general public are not aquainted with. God bless those Midway guys.
man are you guys lost (not including bo fu), do you have any idea who or what game guan yu is from? he's a real historical figure in ancient chinese history, and he is a character from the dynasty warriors series, and that's the weapon that he uses in the game, and it's not inspired from MK and of course the weapon is traditional, afterall the dynasty warriors game is set back in time where the weapons used are now considered traditional
Sensation Check my posts and you won't find anything that said Bo Fu's work was inspired by Mortal Kombat. We only said it was featured recently in MK.
I've studied martail arts since I was young, If you can read English, I never said Bo Fu was inspired my MK, I said it's good he's using the more obscure martial arts that the Hollywood generation probably don't know about, and Rick said Guan Dao happened to appear in an MK game, and I said it's good Midway are promoting the more obscure weapons. Plus you seem to think the weapon originates from a different game. Please, read the facts and have a point before you challenge anyone.
Guan Yu is indeed a legendary Chinese warrior, today worshipped as a God. His weapon was the Black Dragon Sabre (or Blue Dragon, depending on how you translate it). It was one of the first Guan Dao's (as a matter of fact, they named the "Guan" Dao after "Guan" Yu... how clever!). In every television show, game, or whatnot that Guan Yu shows up in, he always has some sort of Guan Dao.
Guan Yu is typically portrayed with a long black beard, green robes, a guan dao, a red face, and sometimes the Chi Ma (Red Hare) horse. He's quite an interesting figure.
Other characters I have planned:
Liu Bei
(Guan Yu)
Zhang Fei
Zhao Yun
Zhuge Liang
Sun Ce
Cheng Pu
Zhou Yu
Sun Quan
Gan Ning
Cao Cao
Cao Hong
Xiahou Dun
Xiahou Yuan
Xu Huang
These will be the playable characters. All of the designs will be original, but based on history.

Just wondering if you'd consider working together (or lending sprites) down the road? I plan on making a Romance of the Three Kingdoms inspired war-game...i wish I could say soon, but unfortunately it'll be a while before I get started.
