How do you make it so that you can tell when you fall into a hole or something like in the Around the World game?

Not sure if this is what you mean, but if your talking about collisions with Mode7, I've noticed alot of times it basicly works where you are an invisable active object that controls where the camera views in Mode7 & collisions are controlled via the invisable 2D object, depending on what happens to the invisable object, you can tell Mode7 what to do.

You could do that, but first you'll have to MAKE some actives which regulate collisions.
Then you copy the map gfx from the mode7 object and make it an active. Then you delete everything in it that isn't a collision.
Then set the 'player' active to the beginning of the map.
Then create some actives that are the hole triggers, and put them in the places where you should fall.
Make sure the player active can move if you press buttons.
Okay, just fiure it out, ok? I hope you know what I mean.

KlikOpenGL isnt worthless, it actually kicks ass, i think it was "Alien" who made some great KlikOpenGL examples(could be over at the Clickteam KB).
But im pretty sure Mode7 is ALOT easier to learn and get the hang of, so io reckon your best off with Mode7.

I've personally been playing around with Jamagic recently, mainly to help me blend to 3d features into 2d games (so zooming is much simpler, because all the 2d stuff is happening on a set of flat textures)

Yeah basically you make a 2D game which is hidden, and the "3D" graphic you see is just a representation of what's actually going on in the 2D game, created with some calculations. So what I would do would be to take your Mode7 image, copy it, paste it into a backdrop object, and use that in the 2D game. If you want to do obstacles you can literally just create a copy to lay on top and cut out everything which isn't an obstacle.
