Wow, I totally want one. Or two. And some rocket launchers.
I doubt those weapons are functional. The bores are too wide for paintballs (or anything other than grenades on a barrel that short) and you can tell the minigun doesn't wind up properly, which is something it wouldn't be hard to make it do if you actually wanted to shoot something out of it.
Anyway, it'd be more likely to use airsoft rather than paintballs, given that the whole thing is a sort of replica.
Mechs with Airsoft weaponry ... not the greatest idea. Paintballs are nice because they leave a clear mark... an airsoft BB won't, unless you make them heavy enough to leave dents, which would also be bad... >_>
Heh, once they make 'em more stable and faster, paintball wars could get mega-awesome.
Unless the guy has another mech, there's no use for paintballs. I agree that paintball matches between mecha would be fun, but the fact is that paintball guns look gay, it's japan, and replicas are almost always airsoft (it should be mentioned that you can fire special paintballs from airsoft weaponry, and that a Red Gas powered airsoft machine gun mounted on a mech would be a hell of a lot more impressive than anything else short of actual guns).
Japan owns this with their T63 Artemis. This police robot can detect suspicious activity and sound an alarm, fill a room with smoke, and shoot paintballs at high speed. It can also push elevator buttons!
DC3 better have a better link system. Anyway I didnt claim that it was a mech, I said it owns it. You should check out the video of the policebot, it's badass. The paintball goes soo fast it looks like it could be fatal, or at least hurt like a bitch. The mech looks like it would fall over in a light breeze.
Steve Zissou: Anne-Marie, do all the interns get Glocks?
Pfft. JP, your robot looks like the nanny from The Jetsons. If you want a badass robot, check this out:
It's a four-barrel Metal Storm module mounted on a Talon UGV. For those who don't know what Metal Storm is, I think a 4-barrel version can fire (real bullets) something like 125,000 rounds per minute. Which is just over 2000 rounds per second.
I think even plastic airsoft BBs firing at 2000 rounds per second would reduce anything to a fine red mist. So no. But practically, there's no way you could apply Metal Storm technology to Airsoft because it requires the propellant to be a part of the ammuniton. For ordinary mechanical firearms you can simulate that with gas or a spring or whatever, but MS uses stacks of caseless ammunition in each barrel and stimulates it electronically.
If it's any consolation it might be possible to build an airsoft replica of the 3-round floating burst mechanism from the HK G11, which can do 2100 rounds per minute (35 per second) which is really fast without being, you know, fatal.
125 000 rounds per minute! i went to check that out in the guiness recordbook, just to find out the fastest fireweapon on earth is a 36 barrel MetalStorm, but this one shot over a million rounds per minute
