Why do you have to be logged in to click on a download link that isn't even hosted at the daily click. It makes no sense. It's a pain in the ass to always have to log in in order to click a download link. Yeah, I know you can copy and paste the link but that also is a pain in the ass compared to just simply being allowed to go to the link.
I've always been bothered by it untill now. I've never really bothered to say anything about it because I didn't really have much interest in downloading anything before. Regardless, This should of been fixed years ago.

er I meant I haven't been bothered by it untill now. I've joked about it a few times on IRC but never really did much about it or told anyone. Now that theres some stuff I want to DL it's a pain in the ass. Maybe it's something left over from the days DC used to host files. Whatever it is, please get rid of it. It's annoying.
whats the big deal? once you log in you're logged in forever, or until you log in on another comp or delete your cookies. you should have your login and pass stored in firefox anyway.
Steve Zissou: Anne-Marie, do all the interns get Glocks?
that, or you click a link to a page from something like a chat or IM. then you might get kicked out. Still, I agree, its not like your always signing in every time you visit the site. So its not a big deal.
Maybe you are logged in forever but I'm not. I never store my passwords and I always delete my cookies for privacy reasons. I'm sure a lot of other people do this as well. But all of that is besides the point. The point is clicking on an link that isn't even on the site and is otherwise accessible should not bring up a members only error. Copying and pasting the link gets past it but it's still more effort than it's worth. It's basically an error message that makes no sense and is probably left over from when DC used to host files on it's own server. How is going to someone's site that has nothing to do with DC's server "members only", doesn't that seem like nonsense to anyone? Well, I think it's useless and annoying. You should be able to simply click the link and download it.
I wish there was a quote option, cause it makes me sick to rewrite someone elses words above my post in italics just to be seen as a quote to what i'm replying.
what we want when we submit our games here, is publicity. So it's a pity non-members can't download our games and play them, at least not the ones that are too stupid to copy/paste the link.
"It's basically an error message that makes no sense and is probably left over from when DC used to host files on it's own server"
that would make sense gilgamesh, i remember back when rikus uploaded games to the server, it changed just after i joined.
I guess it is a way to get more people to sign up, but then the database gets clogged up with users that only ever visit once.

It's there because it means we can track which of our members have downloaded it and therefore stop people clicking a link a hundred times to get more downloads on the counter. It is a bit stupid and I have raised the issue before; we can only hope they remove it in DC3.
PS, I love the simplicity of these forums, phpBB or phpnuke are cluttered, clumbsy and often hideous.
im not logged in forever, it always unlogs me after a while. I dont mind, but ill never remember that password, i have to keep it on my computer as a word document haha, its like a key.
Pete: Ok, I see. That makes sense. Well, In that case it's not that big of a deal (even though I kinda made it seem like one). It's only a problem when I forget to copy and paste and end up clicking the link a few times or when I'm feeling lazy. Anyway, hopefully it is fixed in DC3. Maybe there's some other way you can prevent people from increasing the DL rating thing.
How about this. Check IP numbers of non-member downloads? Or count member downloads only? I have many friends without DC accounts, which I can't just IM the DC links to (it would have been convenient, cause then they could read my description + see screens)
Of course, there's an advantage too, if they ask about the member thingy, then I know they actually did try downloading. Nowadays I give them the KA link for my games instead.
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
I dunno, I had a half conversation with him on MSN a few weeks ago. I think he may have given up the ghost (on TDC). We should really talk to rikus about it, having said that, I'll be doing that now.
Have a looksy there on the whole shadowcaster story we have so far

I still have ShadowCaster on MSN - I don't speak to him, but sometimes I read his blog. He seems very busy at the moment; DC is probably very far from his mind.
@Digital Dreams 2: You do realise you can change your password in 'user admin'. I had to store my original first-time 20-character password in a text-file on my HD too, until i noticed that
It would be a pain for them if they tried signed up to download any of my old games since the host went down with klik academy.
Infact maybe i still have that space since KA is up again.
