Usually 3rd party extensions cause crashes. Try and view the details of the crash, and the "ModName" sometimes has the .gox / .cox filename of the extension that crashed.
FYI MMF is available in the online store on www.clickteam.com, and you can get an upgrade discount with TGF if you email upgrade@clickteam.com
I temporary deleted all my extensions, but it didn't get better at all. Neither was there any ".gox / .cox" after "ModName".
But I got a little wiser by it, thank you.
TGF crashes for multiple reason, some I've found are
1. Creating more than one object when the infamous "midi Pause" is goin on
2. sometimes, adding sounds can cause it to crash, I don't know why.
I rarely have any problems with MMF crashing, same with TGF, normally I only have problems when I do something like create to many objects at once or like Tiger said, 3rd party extentions.
Now without telling you to upgrade to MMF, I'm just going to sort of vice versa what Radix said, MMF doesnt crash as much as TGF as long as you know how to avoid it. So in a way he's right, but wrong. If your looking for a stable program, TGF, if your looking for a semi-stable, but very powerful program, MMF. As for your TGF crashing problem, try to be a little more detailed on exactly where it crashes, so we atleast have some sort of clue base to work with here.
MMF applications are far stabler than TGF, but I never had any problems with TGF itself crashing. I find though that MMF likes to wait for just the perfect moment to crash after you've just manually copied in 45 frames of animation, or pretend to save while in fact butt-fucking your CCA file.
For me TGF likes to copy the picture of one object onto another object, I don't usually notice until after ive saved it all. Or it crashes when i try to make certain objects global.
But really for most of us (or maybe just me) it crashes at seemingly random points. For instance one of my games Tops the pig 2 crashes during level 4 only on the stand alone version, It's not something a mere mortal like myself could ever figure out.
the annoying thing with MMF is that it crashes every time you copy single conditions in the event editor, and it has alot of crashing when copy/pasting something, which is pretty damn important when making big games. It also seems to randomly crash when just placing out objects in the level editor. But the most annoying thing of all is the animation and picture editors, that are completely fucked up. Completely randomly it seems to sometimes paint white instead of transparent, so you'll have to go back and change it all over again. And it also has alot of problems with the flip buttons, and other stuff that makes me use the TGF animation editor for making my sprites. But there's still hope, i've heard MMF2 will use the same old TGF animation editor
Ive had mmf crash on me about 15 million times, usualy when i have forggoten to save for about an hour or if i have just finnished making a very complicated program and just as i am reaching for the save button, happy in the knowledge that i have created somthing glorious "DUUNG" and its all gone.
I fear the noise, i fear the never ending heart ache!
Come on, TGF crashes much more, and without warning. There's some stuff we know what not to do in MMF and we learn to work around them, but TGF randomly crashes and freezes and fucks up and other bad terms.
