$399 for those of you too lazy to click.
But with recent info that (at least in japan anyway) the system will not ship with a hard drive; which is REQUIRED to use the system, expect to pay more if you want to actually USE your PS3.
Ouch.
Craps, I'm an old man!

It'll be the games and not the price that shifts units. I'd happily pay an extra $100 (£50) for a console which will play more, better games.
Yeah, but selling a game system for that much, then making them buy another piece just so the first part will work. I won't buy it at that price, that's just too damned much, I know a lot of people who think the same. Here's hoping the X360 has a lower price.
...who buys a console as soon as it comes out, anyway? Ok, a lot of people do =P but I think it's a waste of money. There's also the fact that it takes a while before you start seeing a steady flow of games for a new console. I'm sticking with my current console (PS2) until the developers start abandoning it altogether.
I do agree that selling the PS3 without a required component smacks of cheek, though. Here's betting the hard drives wont come cheap...
why dont they just ship it with the hard drive and add on the extra $$ in the cost? cause i doubt theyre gonna rely on another company to make a hard drive. pelican anyone? also theyre said to be losing about 1 billion (or was it a million, cant remember) just by selling it at that price. personally after i get twilight princess for gcn im abandoning consoles and starting on building mes an awsome computer.
The Ps2 was $299, at least here in the states.
They said the reason for not including it is that there will be many different sizes avaliable. I've heard they start at 20GB and might go up to 80 or 100.
Shab: I thought the same thing too on the HD... but what LEGITIMATE uses will there be for the hard drive? Game saves? a couple of megabytes perhaps... more for replays possibly, but still not near a gig. game demos? downloadable game demos? maybe but I have a hard time believing they'd be above a gigabyte.
for the other side of the coin, lets ask the 1337 xbox kidz, who have the LoTR trilogy, Metallica's whole discography and a nude hack of Dead or Alive on their HDs.
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
I'm actually thinking that console gamers will be able to get their first "real" taste of user made mods this generation. It started last gen. with the XBox and the nude hack and such. That's the one thing that makes PC gaming better than console for me, mods. My GTA Vice city is so modded it's incredible.
I never really found any uses to mods except for Unreal Tournament 2004 which I play every once & a while on PC. Other then that, I enjoy playing games the way they were made, without mods.
