Still working on ArcaneTale, I am trying as hard as I can to make a realistic rainforest scene & some things just seem to be missing from it. It feels empty, & I cant think of anything to add that wouldnt be a pain in the back to get working.
So far my list is as fallows:
Detailed Backgrounds
Tree's of various sizes. (Including fungi wrapping randomly around the bottom.)
Old fasion houses with lit tourches
Fireflies at night.
Grass, flowers, & random details spread around the rainforest.
Large/Small Mushrooms of various colors.
Different plant life.
Waterfalls

I need some idea's that could make the environment look more interesting, any ideas?
I think some weather effects, in particular rain would be a good thing. I love it when games have rain in, I think it adds a lot to the atmosphere when done in the right way.
Yeah, I forgot to mention, Rain is apart of the weather system I made & the game has 4 times of the day, Day, Noon, Night, Morning.. all have there own sound effects, atomosphere color (Bright, Orange, Clear, Dark) & once I can get a stable server to run these globally, everyone can run off a day/night; weather system where everyone see's the same thing.
Adding things like butterflies is an idea me & Snerlin are still discussing. I'm thinking of how I can do it so that it can look very random, so people cant detect a pattern that would ruin the realistic feel of the game. Thanks for the complements, I think its about time I step away from Diamond & what better of a project. More idea's are welcolm, I'm open up to anything.
Have u got sun rays coming through the canopies? Mist? Misty platforms would be awsome.Sounds also help hell of alot, like parrots frogs etc etc.how about fallen trees?
I've got a nice rainforest ambient as far as sounds go, but Mist & Runray I dont have yet. I'll add those to the check list, thanks. As far as fallen tree's, I did just add one the other day to the game in replacement of a bridge.
Oh boy...we're never going to get finished with the rain forest.
Hmm...I just remembered, I've made a butterfly sprite that I forgot to send you. I don't really like how the butterfly is right now. I'm gonna redo it and make it look better.
Maybe have some spores coming down a mushroom when you poke them?

Already said but, I think you need the sun's rays shining through holes in the foliage. Also put in some random effects like bugs flying around and maybe long grass randomly placed.
my second picture down has some sunrays.. crappy ones but still add effect.

I agree with Nuklear on the mist thing.
There have to be more leaves on the floor, maybe a bit to the front of the player. Foreground trees/bushes would make things more realistic too.
Brandon Im finally ungrounded and back!!! I think you should add some animals to the game that just kind of run around like monkeys or birds or something.
"Actually sir, we found a tiny unicorn in your exhaust. It was jumping around poking holes in your gas tank." "Oh thank you I did not know that. A tiny unicorn? Wow."
With the cartoony graphical style you're using Brandon, I don't think realism is too important. Having said that, some weather effects, insects and bumpy ground wouldn't go amiss.
I'm going to see what I can do about adding alot more plant life all over the ground so that it does take away from the flat feeling, I am also planning on making more objects appear above the player. Because most of everything is backgrounds, everything is behind you.
Rain? In a forest? Rainforest is an oxymoron. LOL, obviously some of you people haven't been around trees for a while .
Hmm... I love the sunrays from the canopies of a forest. And that natural smell of earth. Put those in .
BTW, I think you've got enough ideas. Too much and it'll look wierd.
Oh, wait, have a waterfall. With little water particles

Well, yeah, there's rain in the rainforest, but not of it ever gets through the canopy. Just tiny drips. I actually take those forest paths whenever it's raining outside .
