I do some photography from time to time. Got myself a Canon EOS dSLR 350D with a few lenses, have 2 4gb Microdrives for storage and a few batteries to keep me going. I can shoot a whole set in RAW and still have room left over! Spent a lot of money on that. No photos online yet, they're all still in iPhoto and aren't serious shots.
I've been meaning to get over to Hollinworth Lake. Did you see the last episode of Eleventh Hour? They shot that just over in Ripponden. or so they say. with that huge dam and all.
Wish I'd watched it now! I've stood on top of that dam, it's well good. Wish I had my camera with me then as well.
If I were you I'd get over to Saddleworth Moor, there's some great locations there.
Where is it you're from again? Is it near Oldham or Bury? I can never remember.
Dovestones reservoir is on Saddleworth Moor, sorta. the high bits are. I live in Saddleworth, just near where they filmed loads of Eleventh Hour, Brassed Off and the intro scenes to The Parole Officer. but yea. some nice places around here. hoping to get a shot of one of those wild cats up on the moors.
Great pictures, everybody. I like the sharpness of your photos, Noodle. What camera do you use?
I have posted this before, but since the link is gone, I will post it again. This is picture of a silver-spotted skipper (epargyreusclar) eating from a flower.
@Jimmi: Nice place to live that Saddleworth. I always used to drive through it going to my Gran's in Barnsley and I just used to stare out the window at the reservoirs and hills. It looked to be a mountain range at that age.
@Spork: I use an Olympus digital camera, not sure what make. Only got basic zoom functions, no special features.
just uploaded this set. a little journey from Dovestones, up to Indians Head and over the moors to Buxton (Buckstones?) Castle and back. Some beautiful shots of Uppermill and Greenfield in there. Nice sunset towards the end too.
Excellent pictures, Jimmi! I wish I lived in such a setting. I live in MA near Plymouth. It's not very pretty here. Actually, it's rather ugly. The only good places to get photos is in west MA, and in Cape Cod in the dunes. Otherwise, there isn't too much to look at here.
Here's a picture of a female gypsy moth (Lymantriadispar)
