I've never had to use video files in any of the games I've made (I alway's try to cut down the file size) but I think that there's a plug in that you can use that comes with MMF.

You can, but if your video doesnt have sound, (I do this with AVI's all the time) it would be alot smaller to just take all the frames & export them into an active object, then run that. It makes the EXE larger, but in the end, its smaller then having a large AVI, or in your case, MPEG, file fallowing along with the EXE. This is only if it doesnt have sound though, becuase obviously active objects cant carry the sounds of the movie.

Uhm, I think that would actually make it bigger, The frames in the active are not compressed like the videos.

Remember, if you use AVI, the player must have the proper codec installed. I believe windows comes with MPEG-1 pre-installed, so that's a good choice. It takes more space than other, more modern codecs though.

TGF can play MPEG files without any extension, just select multimedia when creating an object.

the Cinepak codec is installed on every computer (it comes with Windows) and if you don't have it your Windows installation is screwed up
You can use that codec. It works everywhere.

YES! Cinepak comes with Windows. The problem is that Cinepak compresses very poorly compared to other codecs. It was made for playback on low end computers at the time, and such sacrificed compression effeciency for speed.

When I did the active object thing, it took a 99mb AVI & put it into a 10mb exe. Its pretty effective!

That 99mb avi must have been uncompressed then. I bet that video could have been 5mb with a decent codec.
