Well cool, no? Shame it's only a render, but surely it's only a matter of time before they make a real one. Sold!

That'd be proper good - I can imagine it being quite useful for MMF.

I saw a discussion about this in other forum. A guy was saying that this would be pretty impossible to make, and, anyway, it would ridiculously expensive. He was saying that "each key had to be a hard drive", that it would need a lot of updates and expansions, that it would be difficult to make a LCD screen that doen't break when the keys are pressed, and that overall, it would overheat too much and it would need a big ventilation system

Tell that guy I said he's a complete dipshit.

Those keys look like they're about 64x64, more for special keys. At a generous estimate that's ~614400px, which isn't much. I'd have it stored in flash memory in the keyboard and updated from the driver.

it would be difficult to make a LCD screen that doen't break when the keys are pressed
Pfft. From the render, those things are built solid (it isn't just a render, by the way, it's obviously been carefully designed). Take a look at the Nintendo DS: that's an LCD and a touchscreen, and would have to take some punishment. There are flexible LCD displays, too ( http://handhelds.engadget.com/entry/1234000457027717/ ). You could pound the shit out of those on a keyboard and not get anywhere.

As for overheating, that's stupid. LCDs put out negligible heat. They might even be endothermic. I'll check later.

If you check out the 'industrial design' page on that site, you'll see they already have a great number of designs in production. They clearly know what they're doing.

ahhg i saw this on Digg and fark and /.

fricking awesome and totally possible, julian tell your friend hes a noob and a dick, imagine your fricking cell phone screen on every key, its so completely understandable that the guy you talked to must be 8 or 80.

I still want the DAS keyboard though, i'll have to buy both.

If the keys needed their own harddrive, then the same would go for any normal lcd monitor which just isn't true.
Of course WE all know something as obvious as that.
