sounds like a HD crash to me. Try resetting your BIOS to defaults and see if that helps. If it doesn't, you likely have a crashed HD.

Press delete or whatever when your PC first turns on. You should be able to access the BIOS settings and adjust the boot order etc.

Although it's possible your hard disk is fubed and you're screwed.

It could be many things. Some bad, some not so bad.
Firstly check BIOS settings (which I guess you did, and if it worked before I doubt they changed.)
Second, check the cables (power and connectors) are not fried, ripped or unplugged.
Third, try a different power cable (should say P6 on the white part) from your Power Supply.
Fourth, try a different connector cable. (borrow your CD drives or something, and switch the end to the master on the Motherboard.)

If none of those work, then what does the HDD sound like?

thinking is like pong, it's easy, but you miss sometimes.

Sometimes (with Packard Bell computers) If you press F2 a few times when just before the computer checks the amount of ram or when the PB logo is on screen it goes into the BIOS, Not too sure about HP computers though.

If you fail, try try again... You'll get it in the end

Could it be that the boot.INI was deleted or corrupt? If this is the case, get a boot.INI from a working system, put it on a floppy (make sure your floppy drive boots first in the bios) and the system should take the boot.INI and start the computer up. Once your at your desktop, just drag & drop the boot file into your Windows folder & your done. Hope this helps.
