This guy made a site to raise money to pay for his university fees.
His site has a million pixels of advertising space, each pixel costing $1, and you buy them in squares of 100.
I thought it was an ingenious idea, he's already raised about $300,000!!!
Hey, I know who did that. Well actually I don't know her personally, but her name is Lauren Tate and she works for www.bravenet.com. I got it in an email from bravenet, here is the message:
She's Going for Gold!
Hi everybody! Let me introduce you to our Bravenet Member Lauren Tate. Lauren is in her 3rd year at the University of British Columbia majoring in General Science, and minoring in commerce. She has found the financial burden of her schooling fraying her nerves lately so she has decided to do something about it!
Lauren has set up a website called 'a million dollar website' and she is asking for donations to help bail her out of her financial nightmare. This is how it works: Lauren is selling advertising space on her website - in pixels! You can buy a pixel on her site for $1.00 US. She is selling them in blocks of 10x10. You pay Lauren, and send her your image, then she places it on the block you have chosen! The image links to your site!
With all of the traffic moving through Laurens site you are bound to reap the benefits as well, so buy some pixels and get traffic to your site! In addition, you help out a Bravenet Member in need!
While I'm on the subject, Bravenet is a really cool site for web developers, but it also has resources like music and clipart that you can use in games, and everything is free. I reccomend getting an account there.
really clever, its a con though.
its not really to raise money, its a very clever internet company selling a gimmic to idiots (sorry if somone bought one!)
