Ok, heres a NEW problem with this game Im working on...

Its the 'Space Ace 2' one again, comprised entirely of DivX compressed files that the player interacts with, etc...

We had a PC crash a few days ago, and had to get a new harddrive...the game was fortunately on the SECONDARY drive, the 'E' one, so it was spared...but now when I attempt to open it to play/test it, all I get is a white screen (window) with SOUND but no pic.
I have installed the DivX codecs, etc, to both WINDOWS and the folder where the AVI files are stored, but to no avail...the clips all will play seperately just fine, but when I attempt to load the game/EXE, all I get is that annoying white window and sound only...

Any ideas as to whats wrong, anyone?
(Please email me at kkarstens@cableone.net if you have any suggestions...thanks!!!)

Hmm, are you using MMF. I didn't even know MMF could handle DivX at all. Maybe you should Un-compress the files or something.

You have no seperate DivX codecs installed, or only your DivX encoding / playing program supports it? Try looking for a codec or codec pack on the internet which has a DivX codec in it.

****

Well, I downloaded the 'bundle' which has the player and the codecs, and installed that...it worked before on the old harddrive, perfectly...no idea whats up now...where do you get specific 'seperate codecs' besides the ones that come w/ the player, etc in the bundle?
How do I know which one I would need??

Also, should add for those of you here attempting to assist me with this puzzler...

I moved the files from our SECONDARY harddrive to the 'C' drive, where the DivX codecs and player are stored (it wasnt there before when it WORKED perfectly, but I thought 'maybe it has to all be on the same drive as the codecs', etc)...still no go.

Might this have ANYTHING to do with the version of GF?
Im almost POSITIVE I re-installed the SAME version I had on the drive before the crash (V 1.06, installed from the EXE file called GFShw32.exe)...I doubt this matters, but are there NEWER versions of GF? I dont THINK this would matter, as I am dealing with the finished files...but when I tried to reinstall the game (from an INSTALL creation program I made using Clickteams 'Install Maker') I get an error message stating that 'the file has been modified since it was saved as a stand alone game. Edit the original game, then save as a stand alone game'...this is NOT the case, it wasnt 'edited', but might that have something to do with the problem?

Thanks!

Nah since u get the audio its defiantly a codec problem..
Try installing xvid and select yes to use it as default renderer. (incl. divx 3,4 and 5)

Actually, Im beginning to think that using the DivX codec may pose problems for OTHER gamers if I am to distribute the fisnished animated games on CD, etc...any suggestions as to what file/media/movie formats you all think are best to use within the GF limitations?
What codecs, if any, are most common to most PCs, and will cause the least ammount of confusion and problems?

Has anyone here implimented MOV/MPEG/AVI files extensively in their creations to know what works best?

Thanks!
