I am still doing isometric games, but is there a drawing program that has some good functions made for iso graphics? It would be cool. If not, I could consider making one myself
I dont know about to many good isometric drawing programs, but I do know that autocad, by autodesk, has a good isometric view that allows you to draw basic designs in isometric with ease. Its really nice, I'm taking it in school, as apart of my shop classes.
Nearly all 3D Apps are able to render in isometric view. You just have to set up the correct angle and camera setup. Still, the drawing program is called artist
Thanks. I couldn't find "Artist" on Google though.
My dad has Autodesk Inventor. I'm asking him for help already. Very useful because you can easily turn the angle of the object that you made in 3d, versus drawing each object in 4 2 angles (back and forth)
I think what he ment by artist was, no program can do all the work for you. You need to be capable to do most 90% of the work yourself, some programs might help you take shortcuts, but in the end. You need to be the one with the artistic skills. As far as what Tiles said with 3D Apps, he's correct. I forgot all about that, if your willing to learn 3D modelling (which is alot easier then pixel art in my oppinion) then you can set up the camera angles (or in 3DS Max, use Isometric) & you can use your 3D art in complete isometric views. Perfect for 2D games, because they blend right in (as long as you use the same style throughout the entire game).
Good luck.
Iso pixel art is seriously easy when studied closely. The pixels go along in twos and up in one. Its just using cuboids and cubes, then rounding and shading, darn easy if you look for tutorials on the web!
Its easy to make things like cubes & spheres, but more complex things that are even difficult to make in standard 2D, would become very difficult in isometric.
I hope you like the graphics so far. I don't know what kind of game it will be, but as you can see it is located in a train. I am considering doing a chat app or else a train sim (keep the company running, keep travellers satisfied etc) What do you guys think?
Hmmm actual train graphics are fine but that character really needs some work. Even make him 2D if need be. Also the stuff outside the trains windows, if you use trees they really need to be kinda Iso too. Its really hard to do trees actually, im awful at them! perhaps a little more shading on things, graphiti on chairs and the green walls, old coke cans, a bin, lighting effects more texture in general?
yeah those details should be in it. thanks, I probably would have forgotten that. I agree about the character. He was just placed in the train to test the here-is-an-obstacle-so-don't-go-there-INI-engine These are indeed hard to draw. The tree just goes by again and again to create the illusion that the train is not standing still in a fast pace so it's not very important. But thanks for the tips anyway.

this is from an isometric game i was trying to make until making the layers in tgf became too complicated
characters arent hard to make at all. you just need to have the general perspective. although this doesnt show it very well cause it was quick graphics to test my engine.
