KPL Or Kids programming language was developed by a couple of guys at microsoft, its syntax is based on basic but is simplified and has plenty built in commands for making games (sprites etc.) i suggest you try it out;

http://www.kidsprogramminglanguage.com/index.htm

Dont be put off by the name, its as capable as TGF (and will soon get 3d support!!!) its sorta like the mini revival of qBasic. Theres tutorials on the download page as well as a forum to post your programs. Would be fun to have a KPL competition here sometime

It's interesting that people are trying to get children into programming again (previously I thought that I was the only person in the world to own "Better Basic", a children's book on Basic by Usbourne). The site is rather offputting, though - I can't help feeling of Dead Ringers' Matt Smith impression, as it's written by a forty year old man trying to sound like a twelve year old boy.

Indeed offputting. I'd rather waste my time on C++ or something.

Hmmm... KPL community? Oh god, must be like a Daily Click full of Evil Kitties.

I thought the same, but I had a look at the forums and they all seem surprisingly coherent. There's hope yet!
