It's kinda strange when I look at the outside world these days. Crime seems to have soared in the western world lately... here the crime rate's decent without any cops. I guess I blame all the secularism/atheism that's been happening these days. Organized religion was bad when you had to force people to belief... but at least most of them believed. When you're always afraid of going to hell, you're bound to think twice before stealing anything. God keeps the world from going into chaos, like traffic lights. Not to offend anyone's beliefs, but hey, it's just how it is.
And then there's that capitalism thing. It just doesn't seem to be working out at all. Everyone's so focused on making profits they forget that the reason they're trying to make all that money is so they could buy things. Useful things. Like a nice house, instead of shiny little $5000 neon lights and $10 coffee. What about all the starving people in the world? If all the money used for ice cream was given to feed all those people, there'd be no more hungry people. And what about the people who are the minority in marketing surveys... those people just don't seem to exist to the big companies. Games with good gameplay are being overshadowed by shiny games that have requirements too high to play within the next 4 years. Music, art quality is dropping just for the sake of having something that 'shocks' the public... like those abstract "suggestive" sculptures/paintings that sell for tons of money or girls in skimpy clothing dance to annoying repetitive tones/whistles while singing lyrics about sex.
And then what's with all the annoying new trends that look like the stuff in the Jetsons? Those expensive phones that are too small to use, the wierd annoying curvy stuff being shown by models who wear annoying shiny jumpsuits? The 'sleek' bright blue, white stuff everywhere... everything's turning into the same color just because market surveys show that most people prefer color ____. The cars have gone from becoming aerodynamic to becoming lame... but people like it coz it's the new trend (and having a high price tag helps them to show off). Don't these idiots realize that showing off just makes more people hate them?
Hmm.. never mind. I need to make a blog rather than post stuff like this in gaming forums .
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
Well, the modern game situation is why I like Klik so much - there are some absolute gems here that go unnoticed because of not being cutting-edge (although fifteen years ago, I'd imagine that the better games on this site would have been pretty spectacular).
"If all the money used for ice cream was given to feed all those people, there'd be no more hungry people"
That's the point. If you develop that idea a little, you will get something that looks very much like communism.
Did anyone ever promise to you the world would be a nice and shiny place to live?

As for the ice cream thing, it's true that if we spent money on hungry people instead of icecream then we'd have no hungry people. But it's also true that we wouldn't have icecream, and not everyone thinks the same way, so not everyone wants to give up icecream. If you really want to make a difference, save up some money and donate it yourself, then encourage others to do the same. (Nikodemus is very right about the communist thing, and we don't want that )
As for the technology thing, that's convergence. Every electronical device is attempting to converge into one, and along the way some shitty products come out. Have no fear, these products like phones to small to use are eventually pushed out of the production line when they realized they're losing money. It's just like evolution.
But in the end it's all cool, because you're not doing too bad in the Commonwealth games. Go Malaysia.
Australia's doing better though, so listen to me. There's nothing really wrong with socialism, it's just that expansionist anything is bad news. People should have the choice, and as it is, that choice is still available within a capitalist system through charity. I'm utilitarian, sure, but I consider that liberty of choice to outweigh the benefit of socialism to any particular sector of the population.
Throwing food on the world's problems does nothing. You see starving children and you immediately think that the problem is just a food related one. What about the governments that tax the people so much that they are unable to buy food, the practically barren landscape in which the starving children are living, or the massive overpopulation? Wouldn't it make more sense to spend the money on ways to improve the landscape through irrigation and other technologies so that eventually the people would be able to feed themselves?
Also it pisses me off a bit how some people sit and take advantage of government aid. They don’t work and they just leech off of the system. The system of helping people is flawed because there is no one to say “Enough is enough, get to work”. So many people can just simply use the welfare to be lazy and that is pure crap.
Charity is all well and good, but unless it attacks the true nature of the problem, it is just a mask designed to hide the problem and make the donators feel good about themselves.
vortex, do some research before you open your mouth next time. Modern major international charities do a lot more than just drop food out of planes; they direct a large chunk of their funding towards farming and other infrastructure, disease control, and education. What more do you suggest, besides violating national sovereignty?
Your views on art WCB are completely what I agree with. If you look at some of the work at the turn of the 1900s it absolutely kicks today's work out of the park. Tracy Emin epitomises exactly what is wrong with nowadays's art world. Did you know that half of her pieces are not actually made by her and instead made by art students? How can a work be expressive and as personal as she claims to be when she did not even construct them? She's a fraud and she goes for shock value every time.
There are some alternative artists who actually paint nowadays, they are called the Stuckists, but I'm not really familiar with their work, rather just their ethos. They could be as bollocks as Emin and Hirst for all I know.
I think the way forward for art today is places like this actually. Geeks will fill the void in the art world today - with pixel art, web design, computer art etc etc. And I don't mean geeks as in nerdy, glasses-wearing, sex-starved teens, I mean geeks as in people who like new technology and are willing to use it.
And Wong, if you are so pissed-off with the art world, why don't you try and change it? Forgive me if you already are trying - if you are, maybe you could post some work??

Muz, the level of sheer genericy in your opinions frightens and disturbs me. It's also sensationalising bullshit without grounds in reality. Music has always sucked for the most part, but we don't remember the bad, now, do we. As for games that require systems no one really has, and games that have gameplay, why not combine them and come out with Oblivion.
And unless you have a degree in politics (that also didn't come from your birth country) you should really keep your poorly constructed views on that at bay aswell. If you do have one, then I suggest never discussing it on the Daily Click, because the responses are most likely going to be just as poorly formed and backed up and researched as your own. Yes I'm thrilled you have idealistic, bullshit theories on how to solve world hunger.
It's also best to have a centralised theme or point to a thread, and not plod everywhere dropping manuer as you go. Honestly, write a blog about it.
Radix, I know all of that. My comment was directed towards Muz. He seems to think that starving children are the only problem and that we should just throw food on the problem.
Also the last part of my comment was directed more towards problems here in the US then international problems. We have people here who just live off of wellfare and can work but choose not to simply becuase they are too lazy. That is why I said that it is just a mask as it isn't really helping the people in that sense.
Go listen to any genre of music in the 90s amd compare it to the music now. A big majority of artists first cd is their best. They get a fan base, and then make crap; because they know people will buy it. All they care about is the money. They even make more than artists back then who actualy put work in their music and it shows. I dont even listen to the radio anymore, because all the songs sound like the person made it in minutes and there's no substance. The subject matters in music now blows and everythings gone commercial. Theirs only a few artist left who actualy put out good music.
