Okay so some of you are probably using iTunes. I can’t stand it that so many people love it. Am I the only one that thinks it’s retarded?
Apple always releases a new version every month. It least it seems like it to me. ITunes always tells me to download the latest version so
1) I click the dialog window in iTunes which leads me to the iTunes website
2) Where I have to download the latest version of iTunes
3) And install the whole thing again which also means pick a folder and everything
So you have to download ONE FULL PROGRAM even if you only want to update it.
Is Apple kind of stupid?
This is what programs like Clickteam’s Patch Maker are for. Why don’t they just patch the program so that you don’t have to download the full software (I mean you already have the previous version installed so what)?
Why can’t iTunes update itself inside itself like other GOOD programs do?
That's a genius fucking comment right there. iProduct users generally don't have much choice; all that shit it proprietary and I'd say iTunes would be as well.
iTunes is kinda anoying, but i'm a podcast fan and iTunes is pretty much the only (good) way to go. I like most of apple's products, but iTunes definetely isn't my favorite program ever. Just yesterday I had to restart my entire computer just to get iTunes to see my iPod shuffle.
Yeah, but iTunes is the only one that can save the podcasts to my iPod so I don't have to listen to them at my little, uncomforable, computer chair. Stupid proprietary formats...
YOU LIE PHART, actually you can update the entire iPod (except settings) by just mounting it as an external drive and dragging them in to the correct folders.
And yes, we all at the DC should start an anti iCrap campaign.
It's always pissed me off how they feel it necessary to put an "i" in front of everything. I mean, iMovie doesn't even use the internet, which is supposedly what "i" stands for.
iTunes is ridiculous on XP. Updating is much easier on the mac version, it just says "click here to update". And it's a resource hog. iTunesHelper? what's all that about? Pity its the only music app that supports Bonjour else I'd use something else on the PC.
The "i" thing is a bit daft. the 3 main internet applications on my Mac are Mail, Safari and Address Book for email addresses. No "i" there. It did used to mean internet back when Jobs rejoined Apple but these days it means Apples home products
iMovie, iPhoto vs. Final Cut, Aperture etc
But yeah, I think iTunes is pointless. The only reason it's on my computer is because I do need the Quicktime browser plugin. iTunes comes forced with it. I've never used it...

I refused to install Quicktime because you're forced to get iTunes with it. It's ridiculous, like Macromedia forcing you to download Studio or something just to get the Flash plugin.
The "i" is kinda an abbreviation of "I can (make)". For example iMovie would be "I can make movies" and iPublish would be "I can publish, and so on. Apple actually did a lot of research on the matter.
The eMacs were originally supposed to be only for hard core geeks, so they would rather have something hi-tech sounding like "e" instead of the "i". Apple later scraped this idea, and their new computers are once again named iMacs.
There's also the fact that emacs is a popular text editor. The i- doesn't mean anything, it's just branding. Kind of like everything apple does nowadays.
"... iProduct users generally don't have much choice ..."
-- Anyone who's had the great pleasure of talking to MasterM will know that he's emphatically and very proudly NOT an iProduct user. This is why having this topic link gratuitously pasted in my MSN window kind of got on my tits.
Not really, the "e" means education. It was a very low end machine, I think they max out at 1ghz, 32mb video card. At some point you could only buy them from the educational store too.
