Using TGF, when I have an event start a MIDI, the game visibly freezes for about half a second.. I've tried starting the MIDI at different times but it always happens.
Thoughts?

TGF/MMF1.5 load midi's on call, they don't preload them. So this will happen, MMF2 fixes this with pre-loading midi files (if you choose the option to do so).

If there is any Extension that can play midi's you might be in luck. Otherwise i'm afraid we all have this problem with TGF and MMF.
However i use Mods which don't seem to lag (which require an Extension)

This is exactly the same question I asked when I made my first post here I think, about the pause between MIDI loops. One way you can make it less noticable is to make your MIDI's ending fade out a bit, like a cymbal crash that extends along with a fading bass note. You'll have a pause still, sure, but it won't sound like the choppy one that TGF / MMF makes when playing a midi- it'll sound like you meant to write it that way

You could use the MCI object to play midis. The game won't freeze between loops. I forgot how it works though. I think Tigerworks made an example really long ago. Just google or something.
