This could make a challenge for extension coders, perhaps.
A few programs (like DOSbox and VDMsound) use Adlib sound emulation. I think ModFX has this too, and it can play a few Adlib song files.
Now I was wondering if someone could try to make an Adlib tone generator with this kind of emulation. Perhaps an option to play a few types of Adlib song files too, and some channel management. This would enable a few people to make their games more like Apogee's originals.
This is especially important for me, because I am creating a Keen fangame after all, so some original sounding stuff (but in the Adlib sound) would be nice.
Anyone up to it? At least I (and some other people, I dunno who but I guess there are people) would appreciate it very much.
I haven't used it myself, so I don't really know how good it sounds. It should work with any VST compatible music program.
Now if only someone would help me with my thread

@Tina: Adlib is quite different and has an original sound. It's not crap because I love Adlib's original sound!
@deadeye: yeah, I visit Gregjazz every once in a while anyway, so I knew about that thing. I don't have a VST compatible music program though. (Well, Modplug Tracker has it TO AN EXTENT, but no VSTi's.)

Ooh, didn't know that!
Anyway it'd be cool if I could play around with the Adlib's FM sound and perhaps make something like a Windows Adlib Music creator. And open source plugin player for games.
I have played Commander Keen 2004
and it uses adlib sounds...
The guy who made it used actual CK death and level sounds, and I have the site where you could contact him and find out how he did it.

No, these are wav samples recorded from the Adlib sounds, using DOSbox. It's useless to me because I have those, I especially need the Adlib power for the music.
It might be more work, but you could use DOSBox, and then search the net for a wav->midi converter.
That might or might not work, as I don't know much about converters e_e
