Hey, does anybody know if it's possible to get MIDIs off your computer and onto a CD to listen to in a regular CD player? I know that MIDI files are machine dependant as far as the actual sound / instruments and all, so maybe you'd have to play one and then record what's coming through your speakers the likes of the sound recorder?

You mean ModPlug? It won't work. You'll have to replace all instruments with wav samples... I think.

You don't if you've loaded up your GM.DLS library in Modplug Tracker beforehand, but more than likely it'll sound pretty terrible anyway - the timing information in MIDIs and MODs is slightly different, and Modplug tries to compensate but often makes a hash of it.

I'm sure there's probably an easier way to do it, or a specific program for reading MIDI information and recording it into a waveform, but the only way that comes to mind just now is recording from the output of your computer (select "Stereo Mix/Output" from your Recording Properties in Volume Control) and saving it as a WAV. Don't use Sound Recorder, though, because it has a habit of cutting out after a minute of recording. CDex works.

CDex is my favorite ripping/encoding program. It encodes MP3's faster than any standalone encoder I've come across. Plus it makes perfect rips from badly damaged CD's (Or it does for me, but that could be my pimp DVD drive too)

You can also use iTunes to convert a midi to an mp3.

My dad's a professional musician; most music mixing/composing/recording programs can open up MIDI and export it to .wav and .mp3; the program he uses, Cubase, can do that.

[google "CD BABY crew of seven", you'll find his CD.]

By the way, if you ever want sounds turned into MP3 music or MP3 music into sounds use Gold Wave.
