I've NEVER had a corrupted MMF source, and only a few TGF ones. I also used the copy/paste method, it worked for me. And yeah, try to backup every now and then, and when you make any major changes.
I've never ruined a TGF game, but i've had a million mmf and knp games go bad.
I once had ~100 frame knp game get corrupted on frame #99.
The worst I've seen with TGF is mysterious game crashes, but those seem to go away if you compile it as an .exe with windows 95 compatability mode for windows XP
Phizzy - I've seen a KNP game with about 125 frames that didn't explode. (The Flags of Doom, remember anyone?)
That could've been a certain version of KNP though.
You want anger? I spent 2 weeks on a report that was worth 12% of a 4-credit subject, then just as I was about to print it, my pen drive went corrupt. I had 3 backups stored, and ALL of them went corrupt (as all of them were on the same pen drive). The pictures we took were lost, all that trouble translating my report, flowcharts, input/outputs.. all gone. And it went out exactly a few minutes before the deadline. Didn't do the work in the last minute, all we did was print it last minute.
So... yeah.. it was very, very annoying, especially since 12 marks mean the difference between an 4.0 and a 3.0 on the subject. So in my anger, and adrenaline pumped rage, I managed to rewrite the whole report in 6 hours, well past deadline. Then I collapsed and my partner sent it (I hope). Was kinda too tired to do anything the next few days. Don't know how much marks would be deducted for a late report, but it's better than nothing.

I've had many corrupted files while working in TGF/MMF... I once managed to create a sub-group in MMF, it was by accident but it did actually work! The only problem was that it was really unstable to work with so I didn't really have any use of it...
