Hi,

I am working on a piece of game development software as part of my A level in computing. The program allows the user to create simple adventure games. The program is designed to be a "stepping stone" which will introuce inexperienced users to the world of game development so that when they move on to something like MMF, they will have some kind of understanding of very basic programming and game devving.

I was wondering I could get some opinions on the idea. Opinions from anyone would be nice but it would be great if I could get some opinions from less experienced members of our community.

Here's an overview of the program:

It allows the user to create simple adventure games. Each location in the game is defined by a "frame" which contains a background picture and a collection of objects. Objects are placed on a frame in a visual "what you see is what you get" style editor.

The workings of each game are defined by very simple user defined scripts. A script may execute when the player applies a verb to an object (e.g. use, look at, talk to etc.) e.g. "look at chair". reactions that can be defined in scripts include adding an item to the player's inventory, jumping to a different frame, changing the state of an object etc.

The application will be very specific in terms of what you can do with it but this is to narrow down the field in order to make things easier for the user to get results, and gain experience without being in way over their head.

I think Muz bit me because I wrote a bunch of shit on design theory that nobody gives a fuck about. Summary:
1. Good idea for a project though I don't agree with the theory behind the concept.
2. Take care with the interface for the scripting bit, otherwise it'll be hard to maintain functionality without overcomplicating it.

I like the idea but again I don't like the conceptual use for the program. MMF is already easy as piss when it comes to developing. However it sounds pretty neat. What will you be writing the program in?

I might suck at Super Puzzle Fighter but I'll Puyo Pop you into next week!
