Just a little challenge - If you claim to have a fast PC, gimme a race!
My fastest time calculating 1M (million) digits of pi is 17 seconds. If you wanna have your go at beating me or someone else here then download the file from the page below, extract all files and open the exe. Then click "calculate" to 1M and run it
http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=36
To attain your fastest time you may want to close down all other processes / applications possible too. Bring on the timings! Beat me I wonder?

53 seconds. Bah and humbug.
I should point out that this doesn't measure your overall speed as such reliably, as it's only one class of calculation. It's rather just how good your processor is at calculating pi.

Hmm... 45s with 3 windows in Opera open, mIRC on 3 servers, antivirus, YM, MSNM, on this ancient 2.66GHz, hyper-threaded comp with 508 RAM (less than XP's requirement). Not bad. I've got a faster one at home .
LOL, dual cores are overrated. I had a friend who inherited a dual core comp, computer would occassionally jam up when playing music or simple games.
Heh... Vista really eats processing space. I'm only starting to upgrade my oldest comp to XP from 98.

Probably... Which sucks because I'd LOVE to be able to take my computer around the house with it being crazy fast etc. I'd even give up my watercooling Though then it'd be too unstable to overclock :\ It's a shame they don't make mega fast laptops (usually) anyway.

On the road video editing, desktop replacement computer, portable render farm, ability to boot OS from memory (good for laptops), Xgrid, Photoshop, proper digital photography. etc etc.

You need at least 4gb RAM to edit HD footage as smooth as 1gb edits SD footage. Edited by the Author.

RAM timings only determines the performance of the RAM.
I'm not sure how video editing works, but it seems logical to me that the video data or a part of it is stored in the RAM, because this is much faster than reading from the hard disk. If you don't have enough RAM, the data will be stored in the virtual page which is on the hard disk, resulting in a significant performance loss.
Well, that's how I see it anyway

I think having more slots of RAM also decreases your CPU's FSB speed though, resulting in a differential RAM:FSB frequency ratio, which wouldn't help, and can ultimately slow down your CPU..
If possible, you want the least slots of RAM at the best performance possible. My 2GB's running at 3-4-4-9 @ 1000mhz will out-do any set of 4GB any day... I'm sure. I dunno if this applies so much to graphics mind you .

I thought the stability of Windows with a C2D CPU is because it's slightly underclocked already.
I dunno, another clicker told me overclock leads to a less stable system. I've found no need to overclock my C2D. Not voiding my 3 year warranty

It does lead to an unstable system, IF your CPU gets too hot through the voltage you send into it to OC it etc. that's why I have watercooling and im running at 3.6ghz from 2.4ghz, and not at 4ghz... because at 4ghz my RAM is unstable, and so on
It's getting the right balance of a multitude of little things.

Bascially overclocking it too much causes instability because the heatsink is usually designed to handle stock cooling temperatures.
