So XP doesn't come with a DVD player? WTF is up with that? I thought it was because I'm using an iMac and the drivers for Windows weren't complete or whatever. So MS tells me I have to buy a DVD codec. Cheers!
Are there any free ones compatible with Media Player?
XP comes with a DVD player, but no codecs. It's pretty stupid; but I figure M$ assumes you'd get a codec with your DVD drive (Unless you OEM your gear like I do). As for a free one, I can't think of any legal way to get a free codec (unless you use one of them shitty online dvd players with the built in codecs)
Somehow I doubt that WMP will open the Wow installer off the DVD... I have the same problem btw, but you can load the dvd through parallels, but then you'd need to copy the files or something and boot into windows fully (assuming you were using bootcamp with parallels and that you had parallels )
Nono Ben. Nothing to do with World of Warcraft!
I suppose this is one of the benefits of OSX, native MPEG2 support. ah well. I've settled with VLC for DVDs now. Not ideal but it'll have to do.
If you install one of the crappy DVD players, then uninstall it, Windows Media Player should still have codecs for it. I don't have any kind of specialty DVD player programs on my PC, and Windows Media Player opens up my DVD's and plays them fine.
Yeh my PC came with PowerDVD - I uninstalled it and can still play DVDs in WMP - didn't have to download any codecs or anything so I'll assume they came with PowerDVD.
