The send text function automatically sends it to all players in the channel, so no, it's not necessary.

First you set a name.
Then you connect to a server, this creates a connection.
Then you need to sign onto the server, the name you sign on with was already made before you connected, so just type the channel you want to join, it can be any name, just so long as everyone who is talking, is on the same channel.
Now you want to send messages using: Player>Channel>Send Text this means that the Player (client) is Sending Text, to everyone in the Channel. If you don't go to channel, it'll only mean that the Player is sending Text to the Server.
PS: Everything you need to make a player client is all under the Player sub-menu. Everyone you need for a server client is under Server. If you mix the two up, you'll find events not firing or actions not working correctly.

but, eh, when youre doing a server, you need players on it, don't you? is it unwise to mix them if not in the same event?
