Obviously I in no way condone the use of Ares or anything else, to share copyrighted material...
The default Ares skin looks a lot like WMP11, but if you ever have both windows open at the same time you'll see that they don't really match - it's actually more yellowish in colour, and the player controls are done in a different style. This new skin fixes those differences and numerous other small details.
Really? I never used to like it, but I think the new version is actually very good. Even if you don't like WMP, I'd expect that you might at least think it looks quite stylish.
Which part did you make exactly? Overall just looking at the screenshot (might be WMP as a whole though) it looks a convoluted, bolted together overly complex way to just play music. It lacks any obvious method of control, except for the positioning of the track controls at the bottom.
Ares isn't really a media player exactly - it's primarily a p2p app for music & video. Although it's capable of playing these kinds of media, I still prefer to use WMP, which is why I thought it would be good if they both matched visually. The WMP loading time on my pc is around three seconds, which I find quite acceptable. MMF takes about 7 seconds and Paintshop Pro takes 25 so I'd say it's pretty quick.
As far as what I actually did...
First of all, buttons etc are all in their original locations - the Ares skin format is not particularly flexible, and moving them is tricky - none of the examples I've seen that do it will work on my computer for some reason (many get screwed up if you resize the window for example).
Also very few of the actual gfx are completely original. It's mostly a case of copying and editing various components fom WMP, or at least copying the colour schemes used.
Having said that, almost every component is different from the Ares original, including many other small icons not visible in the screenshot. If you use Ares download it an take a look. If not, I'm surprised you're even reading this thread.
