Actually can you tell more about this? What is the nature of problem?
a) multiple account registering and spamming
b) actually registered account manages to put all these spam
Well, most of the time spambots don't get the chance to post, but they still appear in the members list.
Also the ICQ ban I made does work, on other phpBB forums I've seen (like the older Within a Deep Forest forums) there's thousands of bots, all without a post but an ICQ number set. So it would've been much more if we didn't have that.
Use a different kind of forum? My PhpBB one got raped, but my new one hasn't. Stick in email verification (with some kind of custom message displaying 2 links to confuse any automated responses) and you're laughing.
DaVince This fool just HAD to have a custom rating

Another one that seems to work pretty well: implement image verification at register time AND for the first post. Even if bots register, they won't think there's image verification for their first reply/topic post.
the best thing is email activasion
so people can register
but you have to activate their account
and what about those code things where you get a picture of random numbers and letters and people have to enter these to become a member? no idea what its called but i think once you found out you will find tutorials how to code that on the net
Here is something to try:
"Mod Description: This MOD replaces the original CAPTCHA of the phpBB Visual Confirmation. ... This hack replaces the standard phpBB visual confirmation system with a new system that generates more varied letter combinations including colored backgrounds with varying color schemes."
"I tried out AmigaLink’s Mod and it looks great. The website may be in German but the install instructions are in English and it only took about 10 minutesto install, not rushing."
Klik-Union used to be phpbb based, and getting rid of spam seemed impossible. You ideally need a way to stop spambots recognising your site as phpbb based, but I'm not quite sure how.
