Been a while since I actually posted here, been busy else where. Anyway, recently I got the idea to create a small little 3D scene just to see if I could, after months of not touching 3D Studio and well over a year before making anything animated. (I also wanted to try out animation with bones through a mechanical style design, rather then skin.)
What I came up with was a mechanical spider. Of course, it's only got 4 legs, but any more and it would've looked crowded in my opinion.
Anyway, tell me what you think!
Thanks. I plan on doing some work for the new version so that I can fix the upper leg limbs. When I designed it, I accidentally only took up/down movement into consideration, so when you try to move the legs out... the joint breaks out. It looks messed up from up close.
Any suggestions for the new model are all welcome though.
The only problem I have with ball joints, is the fact that they seem to be a very easy way out. A cliched way of getting away with complex motions. The knee's themselves oddly enough, work fine. It's the joints that link into the body.
It's similar to a ball joint, per se, as it would essentially act in the same way, but the legs would physically move up and down as they move back/forth.
I used 3D Studio Max 9 to model and render the whole thing. I recently added a good 30-40 seconds to the end of it, making the spider jump over the camera and land. Personally, even though I spent hours on the extra animation, I really don't think it turned out the way I wanted it to, so I'm going to tweak it more before I show it off.
